Rosas or Roses is a municipality in Catalonia Spain. It is situate in the Costa Brava and is an area that holds a lot of importance in the country. It lies near a gulf called Roses and it is from there that the name was derived. Rosas is a very important port for fishing activities and also holds a lot of importance in the tourism sector as it acts as one of the most important centres. It is connected to Figueres by use of the c-260 links.



The history of Rosas is not very clear especially revolving around its origin. However, it is believed that the Rhodes were the establishers of this municipality. There are many historical theories that revolve around the municipality but most are unclear. However, there are various things from the past that can be seen in this municipality suggesting different civilisations.

In the past, this municipality was attacked from one time to the next by pirates especially those from the northern part of Africa. Due to this, a fortification was ordered so as to protect the town. However, there were pirates who were able to attack despite the presence of the fortifications. The fortification was revised several times thereby enclosing the entire town completely. When an army was introduced, a number of the residents in the medieval town moved away due to the frictions that were there between army people and the civilians. The population which moved actually formed the Rosas that we know today.

The historic importance of roads helped it rise despite the various calamities that befell it. Today, it is one of the most sought out destinations in Spain. Being located on the Costa Brava, it is one of the most important areas for tourism today.

Rosas is not a hard place to reach. There are several airports that lie close to the area. These are in the few urban areas in the surroundings. Once one gets to airport, transfers can be arranged.
